Recall of FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus CGM sensors (some batches only)

All users of FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors need to check as soon as possible to see if their sensors are affected (see below for instructions).

Abbott, the company that supplies these sensors, has found that some batches may provide incorrect low glucose readings.

Incorrect low glucose readings can lead people living with diabetes, to incorrectly increase carbohydrate intake, skip or delay insulin doses. This reduces their diabetes control which can cause serious health risks.

This issue does not affect any other Libre sensors, apps or readers available in New Zealand.

To find out if your sensor is affected visit www.FreeStyleCheck.com

If your FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor is affected, immediately discontinue use and dispose of the affected sensors.
If your sensors are affected use other glucose monitoring methods.
If you have an affected sensor the website will provide instructions on getting a replacement after you select “CONFIRM SENSOR SERIAL NUMBER” and enter the serial number of your sensor. There will be no cost for the replacement.
If you have any doubts about a glucose sensor reading at any time use a blood glucose meter to double check the sensor is working correctly.

Information for healthcare professionals

Instruct any patients who are using the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor to visit www.FreeStyleCheck.com to confirm if their sensors are potentially impacted. You need not proactively contact patients as they will have received an in-app message with instructions.

Patients can request a replacement for any affected sensors through the website.

Patient with affected FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors will need to discontinue use immediately and dispose of the affected sensors.
Patients will need to use a blood glucose meter if they have no unaffected sensors, until they receive a replacement.
